Renewal of St. Patrick Street Bridge & Porter's Island Bridge - Staging area work beginning next week

The existing bridge structures require a major rehabilitation to meet the current code requirements and extend their service lives. The scope of work will include the completion of life-cycle renewal of the St. Patrick Street Bridge and Porter’s Island Bridge to extend their service lives; and to carry out active transportation modifications on the St. Patrick Street Bridge and approaches for a designated unidirectional cycling facility along both sides of St. Patrick Street, and integration of dedicated cycling connections to adjacent routes. The bridge rehabilitation construction will begin in the spring. The contractor plans to be on site next week to prepare the staging area at the NCC green space just south of the bridge along the Vanier Parkway on the west side. They will construct a temporary multi-use pathway so that cyclists and pedestrians can be detoured in the spring once construction begins. The temporary MUP will either be built in the coming weeks or in the spring. Preparing the staging area is expected to take a few weeks, depending on weather conditions. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to continue using the existing route until the bridge construction begins next year.
