Tree Trimming and Power Outage Nov. 10 - Borthwick Ave, Cummings Ave, Gardenvale Rd, Shane St and Skyway St

Hydro Ottawa, along with its forestry contractor Asplundh Canada, will complete tree trimming work on November 10, 2023 as part of efforts to prevent trees and branches from coming into contact with overhead power lines. A power outage is scheduled as a result of this work and will impact residents on Borthwick Avenue, Cummings Avenue, Gardenvale Road, Shane Street and Skyway Street.

At Hydro Ottawa, we believe that trees are an integral part of the health and enhancement of our community. While trees and electricity seldom mix, we believe they can be good neighbours. When planned responsibly and properly maintained, power outages are reduced by 40 per cent.

When trimming, our goal is to remove only what’s absolutely necessary, focusing on trees directly in contact with a power line or within three metres. Our crews are expertly trained in pruning techniques and always do their best to redirect growth away from power lines while making efforts to protect the health of the tree. To achieve this, we comply with the reliability standards and clearance objectives required. Hydro Ottawa works closely with the City of Ottawa’s Forestry Services Department to meet these standards and objectives.

We recognize that any construction activities and power outages can be very disruptive. Residents will notice construction equipment and vehicles on site to perform tree trimming in this area. Lane reductions and sidewalk closures may be implemented to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

A planned power outage is required as a result of this work. All affected customers are contacted by phone, text or email - depending on the communication preferences indicated on their account - and informed by a written notice delivered to their door, if applicable. Further, notifications will be provided if the power outage is to extend beyond the original duration time. In the case of circumstances beyond our control, the outage may be rescheduled.

Hydro Ottawa staff and contractors will conduct this work safely and efficiently, ensuring that any inconvenience is minimal.
