Bathgate Park Revitalization Project

Work on the Bathgate Park revitalization project, located at 724 Bathgate Drive in the Carson Grove community, between Bathgate Drive, Carson’s Road and Den Haag Drive, began this week.
The contractor began mobilizing on site on Tuesday, October 27. Work begins with the installation of two permanent waste receptacles, one at each park entrance, followed by the removal of the deteriorated basketball court. Crews will then undertake soil preparation and add fresh topsoil ahead of tree planting.
A total of 15 trees representing a variety of species will be planted in the central area of the park this fall, reflecting feedback received from residents during the consultation process. Residents expressed support for increasing native tree diversity and restoring the natural character of the park. Feedback also emphasized the importance of selecting tree species that provide food, shelter and nesting opportunities for birds and other wildlife.
Deciduous tree species will include red maples, river birch, tulip trees, pin oak and red mulberry. Several American larch trees, a deciduous conifer species, will also be planted. Additional tree planting is anticipated in the future.
Following tree planting, the contractor will reseed the area.
The repaving and restoration of the park's central pathway will be undertaken as part of a future phase of the revitalization project.
During construction, the work site will be separated from walking paths by construction fencing. Signage will be posted at pathway entrances to advise park users of the ongoing work. Pathways may be temporarily closed as small trucks and equipment enter and exit the site to transport materials. Large dump trucks will not be used.
This phase of work is expected to conclude in mid-November, weather permitting.
