March 24 is World Tuberculosis Day

Every year, on March 24, the world recognizes World TB Day to increase public awareness of tuberculosis (TB) and to highlight the ongoing global efforts to eliminate the disease. TB is preventable, treatable, and curable; however, TB remains an epidemic in much of the world.

Ottawa Public Health is committed to caring for and supporting people with TB. In 2025, our Infectious Disease Program at Ottawa Public Health managed 99 cases of active TB disease. Our team supports people with TB from the time they are diagnosed until they are fully treated and cured!

World TB Day is an occasion to stand in solidarity with the millions of people who have TB, and the millions who have lost their lives because of it. This year we recognize World TB Day with an official proclamation from Mayor Mark Sutcliffe to raise awareness about the impact TB has in our community & around the world. In Ottawa, the Heritage Building will be lit up in red as a symbol of support and solidarity.

Let’s work together to raise awareness about TB, encourage treatment and help reduce stigma associated with this disease.
