Work continues to address longstanding parking pressures in New Edinburgh through a combination of community-led parking changes and discussions with major employers and transportation partners. There has been important progress on Crichton Street. Thanks to the considerable efforts of resident volunteers, the section between Union Street and Queen Victoria Street has surpassed the required 66 per cent support for new 90-minute weekday parking restrictions and Residential and Guest Parking Permit zones. City staff are now moving forward with implementation, anticipated for this fall. Petitions remain open on other affected streets and sections of the neighbourhood. Progress is dependent on resident participation, and additional volunteers are needed to help speak with neighbours and collect responses. At the same time, my office has been working directly with Global Affairs Canada on measures to reduce employee parking on residential streets, including alternative parking arrangements, carpooling and other transportation options. My office and I are also working to connect GAC with OC Transpo to explore opportunities to improve transit access and better understand employee travel needs.
