Exciting news! OC Transpo has announced that O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will open for weekday service starting on Monday, January 6, 2025, with service expanding to Saturdays and Sundays over three phases.
After weekday service runs for a minimum of two weeks and demonstrates reliable and safe performance, it will be expanded to include Saturdays. Then, after six-day service runs for at least two weeks again demonstrating expected performance, it will be expanded to Sundays – offering full seven-day service. Throughout each phase, staff will assess the system to ensure it will deliver a positive customer experience.
Existing bus service will continue to run alongside Lines 2 and 4, providing parallel bus service options for customers so they can take their time getting familiar with the new train lines. This parallel service, which includes B2 buses (formerly known as Line 2 buses), Route 97 and Route 99, will be available for customers every day for an extended period of time following the opening of Lines 2 and 4. B2 bus service will continue to run until train service has proven to be reliable, and Routes 97 and 99 will continue to run alongside the new lines until New Ways to Bus comes into effect in spring 2025.
Routes 74, 198, 278 and 406 will be extended to connect to Line 2 at Limebank Station beginning Sunday, December 22 in anticipation of the opening. Once seven-day service begins, Route 99 will also be adjusted to connect to Line 2 at Limebank Station.
Lines 2 and 4 are part of the Stage 2 LRT South Extension that will extend from Bayview Station to Limebank Station in Riverside South and will include a link to Ottawa International Airport on O-Train Line 4. The extension restores train service on Line 2 (previously called Trillium Line), adds eight new stations and five upgraded stations.
O-Train Line 2
Line 2 will provide service approximately every 12 minutes and take about 35 minutes to travel the 19 kilometres between Bayview and Limebank stations. The Line 2 extension features 11 stations and three Park & Ride lots at Greenboro, Leitrim and Bowesville stations. Stadler FLIRT diesel trains will operate along the track and can carry up to 420 passengers comfortably.
Alstom LINT trains, coupled in pairs, will also run on Line 2.
O-Train Line 4
Line 4 will connect to Line 2 at South Keys Station and provide service to the Airport. Line 4 will provide service approximately every 12 minutes and take seven minutes to travel from Airport to South Keys Station. The Line 4 extension adds 2 new stations, including Uplands Station, conveniently located at the EY Centre. The airport extension will be served by refurbished Alstom LINT diesel trains which previously operated successfully along Line 2 for several years. Each train will be able to carry up to 260 passengers comfortably.
Customers can now plan their trips using the Travel Planner.
