Sept. 19, 2025 newsletter from Rawlson King, City Councillor for Rideau-Rockcliffe.
A Message from Councillor King
I'm thrilled to share exciting news that will make a real difference in the lives of Vanier and Overbrook residents: the grand opening of the Ottawa Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic at 214 Montreal Road, Unit 500, in our community. As your City Councillor, I have witnessed first hand the challenges many residents face in accessing timely, quality primary care, and this milestone represents a significant step forward in addressing the primary health care needs of families in the K1K and K1L postal code areas who have been struggling to find a family doctor.
The new clinic operates on an innovative health care model designed specifically for communities like ours. As a nurse practitioner-led clinic, it provides comprehensive primary health care services where highly trained nurse practitioners work collaboratively with an inter-professional team, including consulting physicians, to deliver coordinated and accessible care. Nurse practitioners bring a unique and invaluable approach to health care delivery, with their focus on preventive care, patient education, and holistic treatment aligning perfectly with what our community needs. This means residents can receive quality primary health care with often shorter wait times and extended hours, all while benefiting from a patient-centred approach that puts them at the heart of their health care journey.
For the many Vanier and Overbrook families who have been without a regular health care provider, this clinic represents hope and relief. No longer will residents need to rely solely on walk-in clinics or emergency rooms for routine health care needs. The clinic will provide ongoing care, preventive services, chronic disease management, and comprehensive health assessments—all the services essential for maintaining good health and catching problems early.
The health care provider shortage has hit communities like Vanier and Overbrook particularly hard. Too many of our neighbours have been forced to navigate a fragmented health care system, often delaying important medical care or traveling long distances to access services. This new clinic directly addresses these challenges by bringing high-quality, coordinated health care right into our community.
The clinic's inter-professional team approach means patients benefit from diverse expertise under one roof. Nurse practitioners bring specialized training in primary care, working alongside consulting physicians and other health care professionals to ensure comprehensive care. This collaborative model has proven successful in communities across Ontario, improving both patient outcomes and satisfaction.
The opening of this clinic reflects our community's ongoing advocacy for better health care access and demonstrates what we can achieve when we work together toward a common goal. I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Board of Directors and the entire leadership team at the Ottawa Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. Their dedication to building partnerships, securing resources, and creating this facility shows the power of collaboration and shared commitment.
I also want to acknowledge my colleague, Councillor Stéphanie Plante, for her leadership in introducing a motion at City Council to pursue more primary care options throughout Ottawa. Her advocacy has helped create the policy foundation that makes initiatives like this clinic possible, demonstrating our collective commitment at the municipal level to addressing health care accessibility. The provincial funding that made this clinic possible shows that our voices are being heard at Queen's Park, and that community partners and health care professionals working together can create real change.
I encourage all Vanier and Overbrook residents who are currently without a family health care provider to contact the clinic to learn about registration. This is particularly important for families with young children, seniors, and those managing chronic health conditions who benefit most from ongoing, coordinated care.
This clinic opening is more than just a new health care facility—it's an investment in our community's health and wellbeing. It represents our commitment to ensuring every Vanier and Overbrook resident has access to quality primary health care, regardless of their circumstances. As we celebrate this beautiful new facility, let us recognize not just what has been built, but what it represents: a healthier, more accessible future for Ottawa-Vanier, founded on compassion and excellence in care.

Among the measures being explored, landlords may be required to:
