Winter Operations Update - Sunday, January 7 - Morning

Have you had a peek outside your window, Ottawa? It snowed! Crews have been hard at work through the overnight hours, and they’re not done yet! As of 7 am this morning, 8 centimetres of snow has been recorded at the Ottawa airport, and it’s still falling.

Forecast and conditions

Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Ottawa region. Snow continues this morning with up to 5 centimetres possible before tapering off late this morning or early afternoon. Road surface temperatures have been below freezing creating icy and slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and the winter cycling network.

Residents are reminded to exercise caution when using the transportation network today. Please adjust to the conditions of the network.

Our response

Supervisors continue to monitor the forecast and the transportation network. All resources are deployed, and as we progress through the day, crews will continue to treat sidewalks, arterial roads and begin work in residential neighbourhoods to clear and treat streets. They will also focus on cleaning up any problem areas such as bus stops, crosswalks, intersections, pedestrian islands, corners and cul de sacs.

Next steps

The Roads and Parking Services team continues to track a major weather system with snow expected on Tuesday afternoon that will transition to rain overnight into Wednesday. You can expect an update regarding this winter storm and our response as it moves closer to our region.
