Your City, Your ideas: Join the conversation

Four diverse people representing different City services, including a firefighter, a bus operator, a construction worker and a woman in an office. “Your city, your ideas” is written above the people, and and 613-580-2929 is contact information at the bottom.

Ottawa is a beautiful city with unique features that add to the quality of life of the people who live here. It is a vast urban, suburban and rural city with a rich cultural and multilingual mix. It has a strong economy and is home to a highly educated population.

However, there is an increasing need to support those living on low to moderate incomes.

We are looking for suggestions to help us meet our goal of creating a city that has affordable housing and is more livable for all.

We welcome any new and innovative ideas on how we can offer services in a different way, or how we can be more cost-effective.

What does it mean to have a livable city?

It means living in a city that offers services that affect the lives of all residents, including those most in need. It also means making sure that people have access to affordable housing, emergency services, employment services, licensed child care, early years services and to supports for mental health and substance use.

A livable city is also one with parks, recreation and cultural services in communities. In Ottawa, it means ensuring quality services for Francophones, Indigenous Peoples, racialized citizens and families facing barriers.

We have already started improving services and finding more effective ways of working to help create a city that has affordable housing and that is more livable for all. We have listed some examples of these efforts below to give you a sense of the work that is underway.

But we know there is more that can be done.

Do you have creative ideas on how we can work differently and save money so that we can become a city with affordable housing that is more livable for all? If you have any suggestions, you can let us know by sharing your feedback below. It’s your city and your ideas.

Here are some examples of the work that we already do as part of this priority:

We expect to receive many ideas from Ottawa residents and will not be able to respond to each individual suggestion. Every idea will be reviewed within the department that is responsible for the idea.

Submit Your Ideas.
