Heritage Day at City Hall is back!

We are back! Heritage Day will be celebrated with an in-person event at Ottawa City Hall on February 21, 2023 at 12 pm. This is the first time that the City and Capital Heritage Connexion will be gathering together for this event since 2020 and we are thrilled to have it return.

What is Heritage Day?

Heritage Day celebrations and activities raise awareness and encourage the preservation and promotion of regionally significant historic, architectural, natural and scenic heritage.

This year’s theme is “Recovering and Connecting Ottawa’s Heritage – Stronger Together”. We are recognizing the unique and unprecedented events of the last few years while also honoring the role that unity plays in the recognition, protection and celebration of our heritage. We’re also eager to celebrate the cultural organizations who have had a key role in keeping us connected in recent times.

What can YOU do to celebrate?

Ottawa is a city that has a rich history and, as such, is home to a number of fascinating museums and historic sites for residents to enjoy. Residents can learn more about these sites by visiting ottawa.ca.

We also encourage residents to take a trip to City Hall, where they can learn more about the City of Ottawa’s rich heritage offerings by visiting the Heritage Showcase. At the same time, we encourage residents to enjoy In Living Colour: Showing the Creative ACB Experience in Ottawa. This exhibition, being held until Friday, March 3 at Jean Pigott Hall inside City Hall, showcases artwork created by African, Carribean and Black artists from all around Ottawa. It is one of the many events being held throughout the month of February to celebrate Black History Month in Ottawa.
