Rawlson King, Councillor for Rideau-Rockcliffe (Ward 13), released his newsletter for July 2019 outlining upcoming news and events. This second issue provides Ward 13 and City Council updates, including news around the Chateau Laurier and Salvation Army, along with information about upcoming community events and public consultations.
Multifaith Housing Initiative, an Ottawa-based non-profit charity that provides affordable-housing, is leading the development of Veterans’ House: The Andy Carswell Building. Ottawa Salus will provide integrated on-site counselling and support services for Veterans. On July 9, the Government of Canada announced that it is making a financial contribution of just over $6.5 million towards the construction of Veterans’ House. The project will be built on the former airforce base CFB Rockcliffe, located at 745 Mikinak Rd in Ottawa, and is expected to be completed by November 2020.
The City of Ottawa is currently recruiting for a citizen member to serve on the Committee of Adjustment.
The Ontario Planning Act establishes the authority for the Committee of Adjustment to make decisions on minor variances, permissions and consents on property, submitted by the applicant and/or their agent.
Beginning on Monday, July 22nd, 2019 construction to replace the sanitary sewer and some short sections of watermain will commence on Beechwood Avenue between Springfield Avenue and Douglas Avenue. The work is required, in order to repair several structural defects in the sewer pipe, which was originally installed in 1947. To facilitate construction, temporary bus detours of OC Transpo buses will be necessary to maintain bus services in your community. As a result, buses will be detoured from July 22 to August 2 (tentative date).
The City of Ottawa’s Emergency and Protective Services department (Public Policy Development branch) is currently reviewing the effectiveness of establishing a municipal business licensing regime for payday loan establishments, as directed by Council. This review is part of a joint project with the Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development department, which has launched a Minor Zoning Study on Payday Loan Establishments.
Wading pools will open June 27 or July 2, depending on location. Each wading pool will also host a free special event during the summer.
