The City of Ottawa has provided an update for the Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel (CSST) project. The CSST is designed to reduce the frequency of combined sewage outflows to the Ottawa River, and reduce basement flooding risks for several neighbourhoods, while improving the flexibility and redundancy of major downtown collector sewers, specifically the 50-year-old Interceptor Outfall Sewer and the 80-year-old Rideau Canal Interceptor Sewer.
Council Speech on the Chateau Laurier Motion
At the City Council meeting on Wednesday, July 10th, councillors eventually voted against revoking the heritage permit for the Chateau Laurier in a 14 to 9 vote. Councillor King was among the 9 who voted in favor of revoking the heritage permit. Find here the video as well as text of his speech at Council on the motion.

Veteran House Launch
Multifaith Housing Initiative, an Ottawa-based non-profit charity that provides affordable-housing, is leading the development of Veterans’ House: The Andy Carswell Building. Ottawa Salus will provide integrated on-site counselling and support services for Veterans. On July 9, the Government of Canada announced that it is making a financial contribution of just over $6.5 million towards the construction of Veterans’ House. The project will be built on the former airforce base CFB Rockcliffe, located at 745 Mikinak Rd in Ottawa, and is expected to be completed by November 2020.
Join the Committee of Adjustment
The City of Ottawa is currently recruiting for a citizen member to serve on the Committee of Adjustment.
The Ontario Planning Act establishes the authority for the Committee of Adjustment to make decisions on minor variances, permissions and consents on property, submitted by the applicant and/or their agent.
Temporary Beechwood Avenue Bus Detour
Beginning on Monday, July 22nd, 2019 construction to replace the sanitary sewer and some short sections of watermain will commence on Beechwood Avenue between Springfield Avenue and Douglas Avenue. The work is required, in order to repair several structural defects in the sewer pipe, which was originally installed in 1947. To facilitate construction, temporary bus detours of OC Transpo buses will be necessary to maintain bus services in your community. As a result, buses will be detoured from July 22 to August 2 (tentative date).
